Sustainability and Environment

About the research area

There are many multiphase flows found in the environment. For example, the breaking of waves in our oceans, lakes, rivers, and streams is responsible for the bulk of oxygen and carbon dioxide gas-liquid mass transfer occurring in water, which has a big impact on climate and marine life. The falling of rain and snow, and their interaction with natural or man-made structures, is also a complex multiphase flow. Wastewater treatment and pollution dispersion also involve multiphase flow processes.
